He approached her with one part caution and two parts concern. With the light so dim he couldn’t decipher between her bruises and dirt that lay vigilant on her body. As he came closer she stood her ground and to his surprise… she smiled.
“Are you okay?” he asked looking down on her in wonder as she placed herself between him and The Wall.
“I’m always fine,” she replied with a forced but honest grin. It was like she had to make herslelf believe she was okay too, and in doing so… she was.
He could see through it though. Unfortunately, he was powerless to tell her any different since he could also see her stubborn characteristics portrayed in the very words that escaped her lips. All he could think was, “Damn… she’s good.”
